Though VOX 3 has performed a good deal of German repertoire, this concert focuses specifically on Franz Schubert, the man who in many ways invented the art song as we have come to know it. Mellifluous with melody and proficient at the piano, Schubert crafted literally hundreds of songs still recognized for their excellence today. Many of Schubert’s song texts were taken from great literary works by the likes of Goethe, while others were amateur efforts by friends, elevated by sublime music. Often performed in small gatherings in the homes of friends, these performances were intimate and spontaneous. This concert brings textual clarity and vocal beauty to readings of solos and ensembles by this great master composer.
An die Musik is performed Saturday, February 2 at 7:30pm in the 6th floor Skyline Lounge at DANK Haus, 4740 N Western, Chicago. Admission is a $5 suggested donation.
