Sara Salas has captivated audiences throughout North America with her engaging dramatic presence and expressively robust yet agile soprano voice. In her Chicago-area debut as the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) with Oak Park’s Verismo Opera Theatre, Sara was hailed as a “standout… who hit her high notes effortlessly” by the Oak Park Pioneer Press. This year, Ms. Salas will be joining Opera Theater Pittsburgh to again sing the Queen of the Night, and is pleased to be participating in a presentation of children’s operas with the Skokie Public Library this season as The Baker in Brundibár and Rhoda in Knussen’s Higglety Pigglety Pop! Natively bilingual in English and Spanish, Sara excels in performing Spanish and Latin American repertoire and is an active recitalist who performs regularly with the VOX 3 Collective in Chicago. Recent recital performances include lesser performed works such as Vall’s Canciones Sefarditas with guitar and flute, and Kauder’s Ten Poems of James Joyce with string quartet. Sara has also recently appeared as a guest soloist in Bach’s Magnificat with Grande Prairie Choral Arts, and in Saint-Saëns’s Oratorio de Noel at the Madonna della Strada Chapel at Loyola University in Chicago. As a graduate student, Sara enjoyed great success as Musetta (La Bohème), and delved into the roles of Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Contessa di Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) in scene performances and study. She was also selected to sing as soprano soloist in Haydn’s Harmonienmesse at Carnegie Hall in New York, and appeared onstage with the Opera Omaha chorus in several productions including Aïda and La Bohème.
