The word “Requiem” seems somber without parallel. The Latin rite for the dead has inspired many great musical works over centuries of music history. Some of these evoke feelings of fear and trembling, while others are quite peaceful and comforting. The word “requiem” translates as “rest,” after all. Gabriel Faure’s choral masterpiece is one such example, where the focus is on eternal rest in paradise, rather than on fearsome judgement. Paired with the world premiere of An Honor Requiem by Chicago composer Amos Gillespie, this uplifting concert features the combined vocal forces of VOX 3 Collective with guest organist Alexander Kirillov.
In Paradisum will be performed with chorus, organ, and chamber orchestra in the glorious sanctuary at Chicago Temple, 77 W. Washington. Performance dates are Thursday and Friday, March 14 & 15 at 7:30pm. There is a suggested donation of $10; advance tickets may be booked at:
