Rave Reviews for Mozart Requiem

“It is well worth your time to get acquainted with both of these ensembles, ” critic Lawrence A. Johnson of the Chicago Classical Review recently wrote, referring to VOX 3 Collective and Lakeview Orchestra, following their collaboration on Mozart’s Requiem Tuesday evening.  Overall, the performance was deemed “surprisingly strong and compelling,” while the chorus sang “with passion and impressive refinement, delivering the quiet spiritual moments sensitively and bringing daunting impact to Mozart’s big dramatic moments.”

Read the full review here, including praise for soloists Jenny Schuler, Beena David, Zachary Vanderburg, and Carl Frank, as well as conductor Gregory Hughes.  Mr. Johnson also positively reviewed the ensembles’ previous collaboration in presenting the Chicago premiere of Carl Nielsen’s opera Maskarade in January 2014.

The Mozart Requiem is also recommended in Chicago Tribune critic John von Rhein’s Classical Corner this week.

Tickets ($10) for the remaining performance at Chicago Temple on Friday, April 11, 2014, 7:30pm are available on Eventbrite.
