Juliet Petrus, soprano, has been commended for her “clear, gorgeous vocal presence,” and “striking technique and range.” 2010-2011 has been a busy and varied musical season for Ms. Petrus, marked with a number of exciting debuts. Juliet recently debuted as a soloist with Music of the Baroque, under the baton of Nicholas Kraemer at the Harris Theatre in Chicago. Ms. Petrus has frequently appeared with Maestro Francesco Milioto, in conjunction with the New Millennium Orchestra and the Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra. She will also appear in recital with Singers on New Ground (S O N G) and the Broadway Performing Arts Series. In summer 2011, Juliet will travel to Beijing, China as a participant in the inaugural season of the “I Sing Beijing” Program, studying Mandarin and Western and Chinese opera. In the fall, Juliet will make her Austin Lyric Opera debut singing the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute. Ms. Petrus has sung Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music and Gianetta in L’Elisir d’Amore for Michigan Opera Theatre. In 2007, she received high acclaim for her Glimmerglass Opera mainstage debut, stepping into the role of Eurydice in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld on opening night of the season, also appearing as La Musica in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. She has been seen in A Month in the Country and Little Women with OperaModa, as well as the American premiere of Kalman’s Arizona Lady with Chicago Folks Operetta. She spent three seasons with Opera for the Young in Wisconsin. The Farmington, MI native received her Master of Music in voice from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music, summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan. Also an accomplished violist and pianist, Juliet currently freelances in Chicago, where she lives with her husband and young son.
