VOX 3 Collective weaves together three hundred years of art song in five languages to create one narrative, Night/Music, a staged song cycle focusing on sunset, sleep, dreams, and sunrise. Two sets of lovers, lured into the nocturnal woods under the charm of a supernatural figure, emerge with their lives changed forever by the powerful intoxications of desire, night, and dreams. Composers include Verdi, Sibelius, Hahn, Mozart, Pizzetti, Vaughan Williams, Heggie, and many more. Night/Music begins with the sunset, sees the singers off to bed, eavesdrops on moonlit lovers' trysts, and visits their dreams and nightmares until sunrise.
“Shades of night seemingly permeate every branch of the arts,” says VOX 3 Artistic Director Brian von Rueden. “The combination of music and poetry has yielded a treasure trove of songs written about night, the stars, and the moon. VOX 3 has wedded these musical masterworks with the theater in our first-ever fully staged concert, weaving French, German, Italian, English, American, and Scandinavian miniatures into a new narrative song cycle.
Admission to night / music is free, although donations are welcome.
