Critics describe soprano Ashlee Hardgrave's performances as "passionate, with eclectic vocal acrobatics" and “a delicate mix of singing and expression.” Recent seasons have been dedicated to modern opera, performing Mum/Sphinx in Greek (Chicago Opera Vanguard), Esther in Democracy (VOX 3/Eclipse Theatre), and Estelle in No Exit (COV). Her recent new music premieres include debuts of Sam Krahn’s Leave A Message, Robert Steel’s Lobster Stew, Adam Gustafson’s Morning Commute and Matthew Lawton’s Sonnet Study. Other roles include Despina in Così fan tutte (with both American Opera Group and Intimate Opera) and Chœur Féminin in Djamileh (Chicago Cultural Center). Active in recital and cabaret, her past collaborators include Anaphora Ensemble, InnateVolution Theatre, VOX 3 Collective, Sandhill Theatre, Bailiwick Repertory, ECN Danceworks, Space/Movement Project, MacMurray and Beloit Colleges and Dream Engine Theatre Company. Her latest collaboration Green Genes, a collection of eco-conscious children songs, is currently available on iTunes. Ms. Hardgrave holds the M.M. from Chicago College of Performing Arts/Roosevelt University and the B.A. from Arkansas Tech University. She is a proud member of Sandhill Theatre Company and VOX 3 Collective.
