A song of serious artistic purpose designed for concert performance, sung by solo voice with accompaniment.
VOX 3 presents dynamic programs of art song, each exploring a central theme, and incorporating several members into a single program. This enables the ensemble to better explore the works of a composer, a culture, a poet, or songs centered around a particular idea. Art songs are amazingly compact marriages of music and text, expressing worlds in their tone, color, inflection, and harmony.
Past concerts have featured settings of Shakespeare, repertoire evocative of the four seasons, contemporary German compositions, Russian romances, and musical renditions of popular fairytales. Our venues are chosen for their intimacy and acoustics, where this art form can best be experienced. All VOX 3 programs are accompanied by a publication of original essays on the pieces performed to further enhance the audience's concert-going experience.
