VOX 3 Collective believes in the vitality of vocal music in all its myriad forms. From its inception in 2007, VOX 3 Collective has sought to breathe new life into the recital genre with thoughtful programming and dynamic performances. Art song and opera programs pair familiar and obscure repertoire—whether Renaissance motet, Baroque opera, Romantic lieder, or contemporary art song—and provide intimate interaction between singer, accompanist, and audience. Alongside traditional recitals, the company presents crazy cabarets that blend pop, music theatre, and classical styles in a number of bars and restaurants throughout the city.
VOX 3 Collective members are graduates of some of the country’s finest conservatory programs and have appeared with opera companies and orchestras throughout the world. Members feel called to champion unique corners of the repertoire, helping to fashion fresh programs that combine performance talent with intellectual curiosity. The company’s entertaining, educational concerts have been featured on WLUW, WBEZ, and WFMT radio, WOCH television, and recommended by critics and publications throughout Chicago.
Beyond musical performance, VOX 3 Collective has published a program journal of original essays and hosts educational events to aid understanding of art, culture, and history. Past programs have featured female composers, traced German history, celebrated Latin American culture, investigated vocal music of the Philippines, highlighted the drama of Shakespeare’s works, and delved into the folklore of diverse peoples. Through these widely varied themes, audiences not only hear new and enjoyable music, but also learn as they listen. Further, VOX 3 remains committed to providing its concerts at a low cost in order to allow the widest spectrum of Chicagoans to experience vocal music.
