Get to second base with VOX 3! VOX 3’s February concert offering comes just a short while after Valentine’s Day, making it the perfect opportunity to treat your honey to a culturally enlightened second date. The group will perform racy and romantic works by very different composers, ranging from Mozart to Poulenc, Schumann to Lauridsen. Additionally, a quiz on “Love in the Headlines” during intermission will give listeners a chance to exercise their knowledge of pop culture and possibly win a prize. This free concert will feature VOX 3 members Magaly Cordero, Elizabeth Abowd, Brad Jungwirth, and guest tenor, Jay Decker. Chanson d’amour explores the faces of love through the vocal works of various times and cultures. From the Classical style of Mozart through to the folk-song-inspired works of Rodrigo, these pieces sing the praises of that crazy little thing called “love.” “There is something for everyone in this diverse concert,” says VOX 3 Artistic Director Brian von Rueden. In addition, Robert Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben is a beautiful, classic hymn to true and constant love, while ravishing works by Quilter, Hundley, and Lauridsen set a romantic tone, and Poulenc’s Chansons Gaillardes bawdily delights in the pleasures of wine and women. Experience the beauty and passion of love this February in the music of VOX 3. Admission to Chanson d’amour is free, although donations are welcome.
